Expert Village Spotlight: Jessica Hill

A woman and two boys sit smiling together by a fountain on a sunny day, enjoying a moment that feels straight out of a Kat Neill interview—warm, genuine, and full of connection.

At Hello Nanny!, we know that raising a family takes more than love—it takes a village. That’s why we’ve built ours: Hello Nanny!’s Expert Village.

This curated network of trusted professionals—spanning child development, family wellness, mental health, education, and more—exists to help parents and caregivers navigate the complexities of modern family life with confidence.

We’re thrilled to spotlight our community of experts, sharing their story, their work, and the insights that inspire them. Because behind every great caregiver or parent is a team of people who make the journey a little easier. And, we’re here to make sure you never walk it alone.

In this week’s Village Expert Spotlight, we chat with Jessica Hill, Founder of The Parent Collective. Jessica is an entrepreneur and mother of two who has dedicated her career to supporting mothers.

Name and occupation:

Jessica Hill, Founder of The Parent Collective

Do you have kids? If so, how old are they?

Two boys, 14 & 16.

How would your kids describe you? How would they describe what you do?

I think my kids would describe me as fun and supportive—the kind of mom who’s always up for an adventure like attempting to drop in on a skateboarding ramp or repeat any number of inane teen slang for their friends. They’d probably say The Parent Collective has something to do with “pregnant people”. They know it’s about helping parents find friends and feel more supported. They’re also pretty aware of my work with the Chamber of Mothers and my advocacy around Fair Play. They’ve definitely picked up on my passion for changing the systems around parenthood and creating a more balanced load for families.

Tell us about your company/current role:

The Parent Collective is a prenatal education and community-building organization I founded to help expectant parents find their village before their baby arrives. Our four-week class series combines evidence-based prenatal education with intentional connection, grouping parents by due date and location so they leave not just informed, but surrounded by people who truly get it.

As the founder, I wear a lot of hats, from developing partnerships with OB practices and maternal health organizations, to supporting our location directors across the country, to shaping our brand and curriculum as we grow. But at the heart of it, my role is about nurturing community: creating the spaces, systems, and conversations that help parents feel seen, supported, and less alone in one of life’s biggest transitions.

Any family traditions?

We’re not big on formal traditions, but we have our own little silly ones that make us us. My favorite is my husband blasting “Holiday Road” from Vacation every time we’re packing for a trip — it’s our way of kicking things off with laughter and reminding ourselves not to take the chaos too seriously. That said, I am usually annoyed at someone by the time we get in the car!

3 things you never leave the house without:

My phone, lip balm and sunglasses.

Piece of parenting advice that has stuck with you:

A piece of parenting advice that has really stuck with me came from my husband: there comes a point where you stop being responsible for your kids and instead become responsible to them. It’s such a powerful reminder of one of the many transitions that come with parenting — learning to step back, trust them, and shift from managing their lives to simply guiding and supporting them as they grow.

What does your support system look like?

Back in the day, my support system could have been stronger, or maybe just more joined up. Once I stepped back from work, it really became all me. We had the occasional night-out babysitter, but because the kids were so used to my routines, sometimes that felt like more trouble than it was worth (though looking back, it was absolutely worth it!).

At this point, our only real help is a cleaner, but my kids are older now and much more self-sufficient, so it feels manageable. Still, I can see now that we could have leaned more on friends and family when they offered. I just always felt like I didn’t want to impose—a feeling I think a lot of parents can relate to.

Last thing you did solely for yourself:

The last thing I did solely for myself was take a mahjong class with four friends. It’s been such a fun way to lean into this new chapter of life—one where my kids are more independent and need a little less from me. I’m really enjoying the chance to reconnect with friends in a deeper, more intentional way and to rediscover parts of myself that had been on pause during the busier parenting years.

If you had a magic wand to make one parenting challenge disappear, what would it be?

If I had a magic wand, I’d make it easier to stop carrying my kids’ worries as my own. Whether it’s friendship struggles or the stress of college admissions, that saying—you’re only as happy as your least happy kid—feels so true. I want them to define success on their own terms, but it’s hard to sit back and let challenges or failures unfold. I keep reminding myself that these moments are where the most important lessons happen—even if it’s hard to watch in real time.
