Your Employer Already Pays for Care. Most Caregivers Just Can’t Accept It.

Hello Nanny!® is the only placement agency built end-to-end to make your Dependent Care FSA actually usable — for a nanny, child care provider, or elder care caregiver — legally, from hire to first paycheck.

The Hard Part Isn’t Finding Care. It’s Being Allowed to Pay for It.

Your company set aside real money for this — a Dependent Care FSA, a caregiving stipend, an employer benefit built exactly for moments like this one. Whether you’re caring for a child or an aging parent, there’s a catch almost no one tells you about until it’s too late:

The IRS only reimburses legal, W-2 employment.

If your caregiver — a nanny, babysitter, in-home child care provider, or elder care aide — is paid in cash or as a 1099 contractor, which is how the vast majority of these arrangements actually work, your Dependent Care FSA claim can be denied. The benefit your employer is paying for goes unused, and you’re left navigating payroll, taxes, and compliance alone, or not using it at all.

That’s the gap Hello Nanny!® was built to close.

One Agency. Every Type of Care. Fully Compliant.

Hello Nanny!® carries you through the entire chain required to make dependent care benefits usable — whatever kind of care your family needs — not just the search.

Dependent Care FSA Questions, Answered

Can I use my Dependent Care FSA to pay for a nanny, child care provider, or elder care aide?

Yes — but only if that caregiver is a legal W-2 household employee. Cash arrangements and 1099 contractor setups are not eligible for reimbursement under IRS rules, regardless of whether the care is for a child or an aging or disabled dependent.

It can cover both. Dependent Care FSAs are designed for the care of a qualifying child or a qualifying adult dependent (such as an aging parent) who needs assistance, as long as the care allows you to work and the caregiver is legally employed.
Someone working in your home, on your schedule, using your equipment — whether caring for a child or an adult dependent — is legally your employee, not an independent contractor. The IRS requires W-2 classification for most household employees, and only W-2 wages qualify for Dependent Care FSA reimbursement.

Yes. Through our partner HelloPay, we help set up legal household payroll for nannies, child care providers, and elder care caregivers so your FSA claims are compliant from the start.

Yes. Employer-funded benefit platforms rely on the same IRS eligibility rules, whether the benefit is being used for child care or elder care. Whoever ultimately employs the caregiver still needs to do it legally in order for the benefit to be reimbursable.

We can help transition an existing arrangement — nanny, child care provider, or elder care aide — to legal, compliant employment. Talk to us before your next FSA filing deadline.
